A little history...

Professional Advertising Systems Inc. was founded in January 2000 by Eric Raskin. Eric's family has been in the Direct Marketing Industry since the early 1960's. His father, Al Raskin, was one of the early pioneers.

  • Early 1960's  Al Raskin joins US General Supply, one of the earliest tool catalogs. He was responsible for putting the first response list on the list rental market using Addressograph machines.
  • Late 1960's  Al joins Longines Symphonette Society (a division of Longines-Wittnauer Company), record label and continuity marketer of LP phonograph records, as Direct Mail Manager. They used IBM 407 tabulating systems with plugboards to collate 80-column cards for addressing.
  • Early 1970's  Al joins Walter Karl Inc as the second employee and first salesman. Walter Karl Inc. was formed when Walter Karl left Names Unlimited, owned by his brother Bob Karl, to start his own company.
  • 1970's  Walter Karl Inc. grows into one of the largest conglomerates in the industry at the time, consisting of Walter Karl (list brokerage), Qualified Lists (list management), and List Maintenance (computer services). Al is part-owner of all the companies.
  • Late 1970's  Eric Raskin begins working with the computer consultant hired by Walter Karl Inc. to automate their operations while in high school. Eventually, Eric replaces the computer consultant and writes software for list brokerage and list management. Eric also writes catalog response analysis software for Consumer's Bargain Corporation and Discovery House, two catalogs owned by Walter and Al.
  • 1982  Eric graduates college and begins work as Manager for Operating Systems Support for Amecom Systems, a division of Litton Industries.
  • Late 1982  Al leaves Walter Karl Inc. and forms The Listworks Corp. Soon after, Bob Givone leaves Walter Karl Inc. and joins Listworks as a partner.
  • Early 1984  Eric leaves Amecom and joins Listworks as CIO. He develops new list brokerage and list management systems for the company.
  • Early 1990's Listworks Inc. opens a computer service bureau division, originally to produce list rental orders for Penny Stock Journal. Eric is President of the division from inception.
  • Late 1990's  Al sells his interest in Listworks Corp. to Bob Givone. Eric continues to work there as CIO and President of the service bureau division until October 1999, when he resigns to start his own service bureau.
  • January 2000  Professional Advertising Systems Inc. opens its doors with Guiding Eyes for the Blind and Green Light Marketing as founding customers. They are still with us today.

We've grown since then...

Of course, since inception we have added staff to accommodate our growth. Most of the people working in our merge/purge group have been with PAS for 5 years or more and have handled hundreds of jobs over that time. There is very little that they can't accomplish. Our list rental fulfillment staff can efficiently process an order in as little as 5 minutes, guaranteeing that your orders get where they need to be quickly and on time.
